The underwater world around Bali is truly enchanting. No rice paddies, jungle valleys, beach and volcanoes but stunning coral gardens, amazing marine life and shipwrecks instead. The best spots to go diving or snorkelling are around Amed and Tulamben in the east of Bali, Menjangan Island in the West of Bali and all around the islands of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida.

  1. White Water Rafting

White water rafting is great fun! Going on a rafting tour takes you to beautiful places on the island where you are surrounded by jungle and rice paddies. You can go rafting near Ubud on the Ayung River or you can go for the rafting trek in Karangasem on the Telaga Waja River. Both treks are exciting and beautiful and never too scary so you can bring the kids along.

You may go on several tours and every tour includes visits to some temple. There are thousands of temples in Bali. You can never see all of them but here are some truly spectacular ones that you just must go see.

If you’re in Uluwatu, go see the Uluwatu ‘cliff’ temple and combine it with the traditional Kecak dance that starts around sunset time. Pura Tanah Lot is a sea temple located just a few kilometres up north from Canggu. You can easily drive there on a scooter and go see the sunset on a special day. Around Ubud, you must see the water temple Pura Tirta Empul and the funeral monument Gunung Kawi. You can combine it with a visit to Tegallalang Rice Terraces and visiting the artisan villages around Ubud. When travelling up north to Lovina you will pass the lake temple Pura Ulan Danu Bratan. A true icon of Bali Holidays. Then, here is the mother temple in he eas of Bali Pura Besakih and the ‘Stairway to Heaven’, Pura Lempuyang (for the Instagrammers! Prepare to stand in line to take that epic photo!).

You’ll be picked up at your private villa in Seminyak and drive for 1 hour to the starting point. You will be hiking up the volcano in the dark. Where’s the fun in that? Well, at the dusk of dawn, you’ll be standing on the summit and become a witness of a true spectacle, sunrise!

Bali has plenty of impressive waterfalls to see but most of them are located in the north of Bali between Bedugul and Lovina. If you love to visit waterfalls hidden away in the tropical jungle, you can go on a waterfall tour and even slide off a waterfall in The Secret Garden of Sambangan. You can go on a guided tour to see 4 waterfalls, including the tallest one on the island, Aling Aling (35 metres). You will walk through rice fields and jungle, you can do the waterfall slide (if you dare!) and make a 10-metre jump (Kembar Waterfall) off a cliff into a deep pond. An amazing experience! Other gorgeous waterfalls in North Bali are Munduk, Sekumpul and GitGit.

6. Uluwatu Beaches

From Seminyak, it takes around 30 minutes to drive to Jimbaran and from there, you can start your beach tour, driving from one gorgeous beach to another. Balangan, Dreamland, Padang Padang, Bingin, Suluban Beach, Nyang Nyang, Green Bowl – they are all worth a visit! Travelling with kids? You can also get a private car and driver to take you around.
